Free Crochet Pattern

Adult Bobble Hat & Scarf


USA Format


Abbreviations

WS.        Wrong Side

RS.         Right Side

sc.          Single Crochet

hdc.       Half Double Crochet

rpt.         Repeat

sl st.       Slip Stitch


ch2 counts as first hdc


Size to fit approx:

Hat:-  20 - 21” circumference

Scarf:-  10” wide x 48” long


Materials

100 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in red (1685) main colour

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast colours (sand and white)


OR

3.5oz of Light Worsted in Red color yarn

1.75oz of Light Worsted in Sand and White color yarn

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


Gauge - 9hdc and 7 rows of hdc measures approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm)

Bobble Hat - With 4.00mm hook ch80, sl st to first ch to make a ring, ch2, work 1hdc in

each ch to end, make sure you don’t twist chain length as you go. Turn. (79hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt last row 23 more times making 25 hdc rows in all. Turn. (you can do more rows here

if required, but make sure you end on an odd number of rows).  


Brim

Next Row - Change to 5.00mm hook, working in back loop of stitch only on this row, ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Working through both loops of stitch from now on, join in sand color yarn,

ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off (80sc)


Next Row - Join in white color yarn and ch2, 1hdc in each sc to end, sl st to top of ch2.

Turn. (79hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - Working and carrying the strands of yarn under the hdc’s with you as you go along the row, ch2, 1hdc in next 2hdc, drop white yarn and pick up the sand color yarn,

work 1hdc in next hdc, * drop sand yarn and pick up red color yarn, 1hdc in each of next 3hdc, drop red yarn and pick up sand color yarn, 1hdc in next hdc, drop sand color and

pick up white, 1hdc in next 3hdc, * rpt from * to * to end, finish with one sand color hdc in

last hdc, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Fasten off contrast colors and secure on both ends of row.


Next Row - Using white color yarn, ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt last row once more. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in sand color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end,

sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off (80sc)


Next Row - Join in red color yarn and ch2, 1hdc in each sc to end, sl st to top of ch2.

Turn. Fasten off.


Return to loose loops around base of brim, with WS facing, 5.00mm hook and red color yarn, rejoin to first loop, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each loose loop to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Finishing - Thread yarn through alternate hdc’s at crown and gather tightly, make a large pom-pom (I used the Clover Pom-Pom maker) and attach to crown, sew and tie off any loose ends of yarn.


Scarf - With 5.00mm hook and red color yarn ch44, (RS) 1hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 1hdc in each ch to end. Turn. (42hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end. Turn. Rpt last row 51 more times until 53 hdc

rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 42.5”. Turn. Fasten off.


Scarf Edge x 2

Next Row - Join in sand color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end. Turn. Fasten off (43sc)


Next Row - Join in white color yarn and ch2, 1hdc in each sc to end. Turn. (42hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end. Turn.


Next Row - Working and carrying the strands of yarn under the hdc’s with you as you go along the row, ch2, 1hdc in next 2hdc, drop white yarn and pick up the sand color yarn,

work 1hdc in next hdc, * drop sand yarn and pick up red color yarn, 1hdc in each of next 3hdc, drop red yarn and pick up sand color yarn, 1hdc in next hdc, drop sand color and

pick up white, 1hdc in next 3hdc, * rpt from * to * to end, finish with one sand color hdc in

last hdc. Fasten off contrast colors and secure on both ends of row.


Next Row - With white color yarn, ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end. Turn. Rpt last row once more. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in sand color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end. Turn. Fasten off (43sc)


Next Row - Join in red color yarn and ch2, 1hdc in each sc to end. Turn. (42hdc + ch2)

Work 1 more row in hdc. Fasten off.


Return to cast on edge with WS facing, rejoin sand color yarn and work same as first side

of scarf edge.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends of yarn.
