Materials

100 grams of King Cole Melody in Apple (965) random

100 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Cream (046)

4.00mm & 5.00mm crochet hooks

3 small Buttons

2 mts (approx) of 9mm ribbon in Cream


TENSION - 9tr & 4 rows of tr measure approx 2” square (5cm x 5cm) using 4.00mm hook

Start with Yoke (worked in one piece).

Using 4.00mm hook and random coloured yarn, make 55ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr in each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)


Row 2 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 4tr, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (62tr + 3ch)


Row 3 - 3ch, 1tr in each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.  (62tr + 3ch)


Row 4 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (77tr + 3ch)


Row 5 - as row 3.  (77tr + 3ch)


Row 6 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 2tr, * rpt from

* to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (102tr + 3ch)


Row 7 - as row 3.  (102tr + 3ch)


Row 8 - (Increase) as row 6, until 1tr and 3ch remain, 2tr into tr, 1tr into top of 3ch.

(136tr + 3ch) Fasten off.


Commence with Skirt - Join in Cream coloured yarn and make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,

* miss 1tr, 1 shell (see abbrev above) into next tr, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, rpt from * to *  to

last 3tr and 3ch, miss 1tr, 1 shell into next tr, miss 1tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. (34 shell groups) Turn.


2nd Row - 3ch, * 1 Vst (see abbrev) into 1ch space of shell, 1tr into dc, * rpt from * to * to

last shell and 3ch, 1 Vst into shell, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


3rd Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into tr, * rpt from * to * to last

Vst and 3ch, 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


4th Row - (Divide for armholes) 3ch, * 1 Vst into 1ch space of shell, 1tr into dc, * rpt from

* to * (3 more times), 1 Vst into 1ch space of next shell,  2tr 1ch into dc, miss 7 shell groups, 2tr into next dc, rpt from * to * (9 more times), 1 Vst into 1ch space of next shell,  2tr, 1ch

into dc, miss 7 shell groups, 2tr into next dc, rpt from * to * (4 more times), 1 Vst into 1ch space of shell, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


5th  Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into tr * rpt from * to * (4 more times), 1 shell into 1ch space underarm between tr’s, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, rpt from * to *

(10 more times), 1 shell into 1ch space underarm between tr’s, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, rpt from * to * to last Vst and 3ch, 1 shell into Vst 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (22 shell groups)


The 2nd and 3rd Rows on skirt form the pattern, rpt these 2 rows until 8 shell rows in all

have been worked from yoke. Fasten off. Join in random coloured yarn and work 2nd and

3rd Rows from skirt once, work measures approx 10.5” from shoulder. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing, rejoin cream colour yarn into dc before first shell on sleeve

at the base of armhole, make 3ch, * 1 Vst into next shell group, 1tr into dc, * rpt from * to *

(5 times more), 1 Vst into shell, 1tr into dc at base of armhole on opposite side of sleeve,

ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (7, V stitches)


2nd Row - 1ch, 1dc into first tr, * 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into tr, * rpt from * to * to last Vst,

1 shell into Vst, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt pattern rows in this way, 1 Vst row then 1 shell row, slip stitching to beginning of row

and turning at the end of each row for a further 2 more times each until 5 shell rows have

been worked in all from yoke or sleeve seam measures approx 3” under arm. Fasten off.


Cuff - With random coloured yarn make 2ch, * miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, 1dc into 1ch space, 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 1htr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last shell, miss 1tr, 1dc into

next tr, 1dc into ch space, 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, ss to top of 3ch. Turn. (28 stitches)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Rpt the last row four more times.


Finishing - Starting at lower edge RS facing and 4.00mm hook, work 41dc evenly into row ends up front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, 41dc evenly into row ends down second of front edge. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to neck edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck edge, 3dc into corner, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 7dc,

* rpt from * to * once, 2ch miss 1dc, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and ch space to neck edge.

Fasten off.


With WS facing return to second side and rejoin random yarn to first dc, working from neck edge down, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.


Tie off and sew in ends.  Sew on 3 buttons at yoke to correspond with buttonhole, use

holes in the tr’s as buttonholes. Thread ribbon through tr’s on yoke.

(close small gap under arms)


Bonnet - Using cream colour yarn and 4.00mm hook make 62ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn (59tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn. Rpt last row 7 more times, until 9 rows in all

have been worked or work measures approx 4”, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Next Row - Miss 20tr, rejoin yarn to 21st tr, 3ch, 1tr in next 19tr, leave 19tr and 3ch un-worked. Turn. (19tr + 3ch)


Continue on these centre stitches, by working 1tr into each tr and 1tr into turning ch, until

centre panel fits along side panels. Fasten off.


Fold-Back -  Using random coloured yarn, 4.00mm hook and WS facing rejoin yarn to cast

on edge at front of bonnet, working on the opposite side of cast on ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, miss 1ch, * 1 shell into next ch, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch * rpt from * to * to end working last dc into last ch. Turn. (15 shell groups)


Next Row - 3ch, * 1 Vst into 1ch space of next shell, 1tr into dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr

into last dc. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into tr, * rpt from * to * to last

Vst and 3ch, 1 shell into Vst, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


Repeat the last 2 rows once each, making 5 rows in all. Fasten off.


Making up and Finishing - ss or sew up side seams, turn through to RS, with 4.00mm

hook, work 1 row of tr stitch evenly along neck edge catching in fold-back on both sides of bonnet as you go. Fasten off. Sew in and tie off any loose ends, thread ribbon through tr at neck edge.


Booties x 2 - Using 5.00mm Hook make 25ch, Change to 4.00mm hook, 1dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. (24dc). Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 2dc. * rpt from

* to * last 2dc, 2ch miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn.


Next row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc. and 2ch space to end. Turn. (24dc)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end.  Fasten off. Turn. (will be referred to as ankle further on)


Instep - Miss 8dc, rejoin yarn to 9th dc, 1ch, 1dc into base of ch, 1dc into each of next 7dc. Turn leaving 8dc un-worked.


Next row - 1ch, 1dc into each of next 8dc. Turn. Rpt last row 6 more times until 8 rows in all have been worked. Turn. Fasten off.


Shape Foot - With RS facing return to first of 8dc that you missed to make instep on ankle (see last row before instep, rejoin yarn and work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next

7dc along ankle, 8dc into row ends along instep, 8dc along toe, 8dc into row ends along

other side of instep, 8dc along second side of ankle. Turn. (40dc)


Next row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Next row (dec row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into each of the next 15dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (twice), 1dc into next 15dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc

into last dc. Turn.


Next row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (36dc)


Next row (dec row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into each of the next 13dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (twice), 1dc into next 13dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc

into last dc. Turn.


Next row – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (32dc)


Next row (dec row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into each of the next 11dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (twice), 1dc into next 11dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into last dc. Fasten off.


Top of Bootie - With RS facing return and rejoin random colour yarn to cast on edge at

top of bootie, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1ch, 1 shell into next ch, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 3ch, miss 1ch, 1 shell into next ch, 1dc into last ch. Rpt pattern 2nd and 3rd Rows from skirt. Fasten off. (6 shell groups)


Making up and finishing

With WS facing sew or ss open seam and fasten off all ends. Turn through to RS. Thread ribbon through ch spaces at ankle and tie in bows.
