4.00mm crochet hook
Oddments of DK in Main & Contrast Colour Yarn

With 4.00mm hook and main colour make 9ch, 1 shell (see abbrev above) into 6th ch
from hook, miss 2ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 1 shell into 1ch space of shell, 1tr into top of 5ch, Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 1 shell into 1ch space of shell, 1tr into top of 3ch, Turn.
Rpt last row 13 more times until 16 shell rows have been worked in all. (For short or
longer bookmark, work more or less rows here. Turn.
Next Row - 5ch, 1dc into 1ch space of shell, 2ch, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Edging - 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 2dc into next 2ch space, 1dc into dc, 2dc into 5ch space, 3dc 3rd of 5ch, working down the side of bookmark, work 2dc into each row end,
to corner, 3dc into 3rd of 5ch, 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into base of shell, 2dc into 2ch space, 3dc into last tr, working up the second side of bookmark and again into row ends, work 2dc into each row to end, 1dc into base of first dc, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.
Join in contrast colour, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc to end, working 3dc into all corners, ss to first dc on each row. Fasten off.
Tassel - Using contrast colour, cut 6 strips of yarn approx 6” long (if you prefer a longer
or a thicker tassel, just add more length and more strips), attach tassel to centre dc on bottom of bookmark by folding in half, thread loose ends through dc from back to front
and pull through loop formed, pull secure and trim tassel so the ends are even.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn.
