Centre Piece & Tissue Box Cover

WS.        Wrong Side

RS.         Right Side

sc.          Single Crochet

dc.          Double Crochet

rpt.         Repeat

sl st.       Slip Stitch

yo.          Yarn Over


dc5tog.  Leaving last loop of each dc on hook,

work 5dc in next dc, yo and pull through all loops.


Crab Stitch. Working left to right work sc

backwards ch3 counts as first dc

4.5”(w) x 4.5”(d) x 5”(h) box of tissues


Materials

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in nil (007) main colour

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast


OR

1.75oz of Worsted Weight Yarn in Main Color

1.75oz of Worsted Weight Yarn in Contrast Color

4.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks


GAUGE – 10dc and 4 rows of dc’s measures approx 2” x 2”

Centre Piece

With 4.50mm hook and main color yarn, ch32 loosely, change to 4.00mm hook, 1dc in 4th

ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (29dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (30sc)


Pattern Row 1 - ch3, 1dc in each sc to end. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


Pattern Rows 1 & 2 form the pattern, rpt both rows until 10 complete patterns have

been worked in all. Work Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.


Edging  - With 4.00mm hook, ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc along to ch3 to turn, 3sc in top of ch3, working in row ends and down first side of centre piece, work 28sc evenly along to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each dc along bottom of centre piece to corner, 3sc in corner, working in row ends and up second side of table centre, work 28sc evenly along to corner,  1sc in base of ch1, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each sc all around four sides of centre piece, working 3dc in corners, 1dc in base of ch3 on beginning of row, sl st to top of ch3.

Fasten off.


Next Row - With WS facing, join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1dc, dc5tog (see abbrev) in next dc, ch1, skip 1dc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * around four sides to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main color, ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each stitch, including all ch1 spaces to end, working 3dc in corners, 1dc in base of ch3 on beginning of row, sl st to top

of ch3. Turn.


Working in each dc and starting with ch1, work one row of crab stitch all around. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn.


Tissue Box Cover


Main Part - With 4.50mm hook and main color ch80, sl st to first ch to make a ring, change to 4.00mm hook, ch3, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. Fasten off. (79dc + ch3)


Next Row - With WS facing, join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1dc, dc5tog in next dc, ch1, skip 1dc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main color, ch3, 1dc in each stitch, including all ch1 spaces to end,

sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (79dc + ch3)


Work Pattern Row 2 once, sl st to first sc at the end of the row. Turn. (80sc) Continue working Pattern Rows 1 & 2 three more times, (you can add or reduce rows here, depending on the height of your tissue box) sl st and turn at the end of each row. Work Pattern Row 1 once. Fasten off.


Next Row – With WS facing, join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1,

skip 1dc, dc5tog in next dc, ch1, skip 1dc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st

to first sc. Turn. Fasten off.


With main color yarn and working in each stitch and ch1 space, rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once, sl st and turning at the end of rows. Fasten off.


With WS facing return to cast on ch at the bottom of the tissue box cover, rejoin main

color yarn in first stitch after seam with a sl st, work ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each stitch along to end, sl st to first sc. (80sc) Turn. Work one row of crab stitch, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Top - With 4.50mm hook and main color yarn, ch22, change to 4.00mm hook,

1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (19dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (20sc)


Rpt Pattern Row 1 & 2 twice. Turn.


Next Row -  ch3, 1dc in each of next 3sc, ch12, skip 12sc, 1dc in each of last 4sc. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 3sc, work 12sc evenly in ch12 space,

1sc in each of next 3sc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 three more times. Fasten off.


With WS facing and 4.50mm hook, work through front loop of stitch only on main part of tissue box cover, sl st to top of cover to join together, starting with seam of main part onto a corner of the top part, make sure you sl st 20sc to each of the four sides of the top piece.


With 4.00mm hook and RS facing, starting on a corner and working around top, work one

row of crab stitch in loose loops created when joining main part to top. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends of yarn.
