Materials
1 x 100 gram ball of DK Yarn in Main colour, small amount of Contrast Colour
5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks
TENSION - 2, 5tr groups and 6 rows of 5tr groups measures approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm)

Place Mat - With 5.00mm hook and main colour, make 38ch, change to 4.00mm hook, work
1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * miss 2ch, 5tr group into next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc into
next ch, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (6, 5tr groups).
Pattern Row 1 - 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr
group, miss 2tr, 5tr group into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 3tr into last
dc. Turn.
Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 2tr, 5tr group into next dc, miss
2tr, 1dc into centre tr of 5tr group, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.
Turn.
The above 2 rows form the pattern, rpt both rows until 22 rows have been worked in
all. Fasten off. Turn.
Join in contrast colour and work Pattern Row 2, continue with contrast colour and
work Pattern Rows 1, 2, 1, change to main colour and work Pattern Rows 2, 1, 2 turning
at the end of each row.
Decorative Edge
Next Row - With 4.00mm hook, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each of next
5tr, 1htr into dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, (36st) 3dc into last dc, working
down side of place mat and into row ends, work 1dc into rows ending with a dc and
2dc into rows ending with 3tr, (43dc) 3dc into last stitch, work * 2dc into 2ch space,
1dc into base of 5tr group, 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into base of dc, * rpt from *
to * to end, (35dc) 3dc into last dc, working up side of place mat and into row ends,
work 1dc into rows ending with a dc and 2dc into rows starting with 3ch and 2tr,
(43dc) ss to first dc. Turn.
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and htr all around 4 sides
of place mat, working 3dc into corners, ss to first dc. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 3tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, miss 2dc, 7tr
into next dc, * rpt from * to * around all sides to end work 3tr into base of 3ch
on beginning of row, ss to top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends.
Coaster- With 5.00mm hook and main colour, make 14ch, change to 4.00mm hook, work
1dc into 2nd ch from hook, * miss 2ch, 5tr group into next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc into
next ch, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (2, 5tr groups).
Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 same as for place mat until 4 rows have been worked in all.
Fasten off.
Join in contrast colour and work Pattern Row 2, continue with contrast colour and
work Pattern Rows 1, 2, 1 turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.
Decorative Edge
Next Row - With 4.00mm hook, change to main colour, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
* 1dc into each of next 2tr, 1htr into dc, 1dc into each of next 5tr, 1htr into dc,
1dc into each of next 2tr, (12st) 3dc into top of 3ch, working down side of coaster
and into row ends, work 1dc into rows ending with a dc and 2dc into rows starting
with 3ch and 2tr, (11dc) 3dc into last stitch, work * 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into
base of 5tr group, 2dc into 2ch space, 1dc into base of dc, * rpt from * to * to
end, (11dc) 3dc into last dc, working up side of place mat and into row ends, work
1dc into rows ending with a dc and 2dc into rows ending with 3tr, (12dc) ss to first
dc. Turn.
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and htr all around 4 sides
of coaster, working 3dc into corners, ss to first dc. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 3tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, miss 2dc, 7tr
into next dc, * rpt from * to * around all sides to end, work 3tr into base of 3ch
on beginning of row, ss to top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends.
Napkin Ring - With 5.00mm hook and main colour, make 8ch, change to 4.00mm hook,
work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, miss 2ch, * 5tr group into next ch, miss 2ch, 1dc
into last ch. Turn. (1, 5tr group).
Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 same as for place mat and coaster until 6 rows have been worked
in all. Fasten off.
Join in contrast colour and work Pattern Row 2, continue with contrast colour and
work Pattern Rows 1, 2, 1 turning at the end of each row.
Change to main colour and starting with Pattern Row 2, work both pattern rows until
11 more rows have been worked, turning at the end of each row.
With WS facing and 5.00mm hook, ss bottom and top edges together to make a ring.
Fasten off.
Decorative Edge (same for both sides)
Next Row - With main colour and 4.00mm hook rejoin yarn to side of napkin ring, make
1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, working into row ends, work 1dc into rows ending with
a dc and 2dc into rows ending with 3tr, ss to first dc. Turn. (33dc)
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last dc, work 2dc into
last dc, ss to first dc. Turn. (34dc)
Next Row - 3ch, 3tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2dc, 1dc into next dc, miss 1dc, 7tr
into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, work 3tr into base of 3ch on beginning of
row, ss to top of 3ch. (6, 7tr Groups) Fasten off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends.
