Sponge Bag Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

WS.     Wrong Side

RS.      Right Side

sc.           Single Crochet

dc.      Double Crochet

rpt.     Repeat

sl st.   Slip Stitch


Size: Approximately 8.5” wide x 10” in length


Materials

3.5oz of Light Worsted #3 Variegated colored Yarn

G (4.50mm) & F (4.00mm) crochet hooks

Polythene bag for lining approx 9 x 8 inches, 1.5 mtrs of 6mm wide ribbon in white


TENSION/GAUGE - 10dc and 4 complete patterns measure approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm) on a 4.00mm hook

Sponge Bag - With G (4.50mm) hook ch42, change to F (4.00mm hook), 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (41sc).


Next Row - ch1, sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next sc, sl st in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


1st Pattern Row  -  ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. (40dc + ch3)


2nd Pattern Row - ch1, sl st in base of ch1, * 1dc in next dc, sl st in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


1st and 2nd Pattern Rows form the pattern, rpt 34 more times until 36 complete patterns have been worked in all or work measures 20 inches from beginning. Turn.


Next row - ch1, 1sc in each stitch to end. Fasten off.


Finishing – Fold in half and sl st or over sew side seams together, sew in and tie of any loose ends of yarn. Place polythene bag over wrong side of work to form lining, it should fit to approximately the third row of dc’s at top of work. Thread ribbon neatly through third row of alternate dc’s catching in top of polythene bag to secure in place.
